Homelessness
The Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) is a unique community-based program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness. It provides direct federal funding to communities across Canada to support their efforts in addressing local needs and specific homelessness priorities. Since its inception, the HPS has been encouraging communities in shifting away from emergency responses and focusing instead on longer-term solutions.
In 2012 the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation was tasked with delivering three streams of HPS funding: Aboriginal Undesignated, Brandon, and Rural and Remote. In the 2014-2019 period $5.7 million from these streams will be invested in local organizations for the development of housing and support services for people who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. Advisory Boards for the respective funding streams are responsible for making funding recommendations following a Call for Proposal process.
