Everyone Counts 2024

Join Us for Brandon's Fourth National Point-in-Time Homelessness Count

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for this crucial event! On October 17, starting at 11:00 a.m., Brandon will join a national effort to measure homelessness through the Point-in-Time (PiT) Count. This coordinated event is essential for understanding the scope of homelessness in our community.

Volunteers will play a vital role in gathering data that will help local agencies and government refine their strategies for funding programs and services dedicated to supporting unhoused citizens. Your participation ensures that we collect accurate and comprehensive information to address this pressing issue.

The Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation (BNRC) has proudly led our city’s involvement in the PiT Count since its inception in 2016. This year marks our fourth count, and we will work closely with shelters, service providers, and committed community volunteers over a 24-hour period. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.

We have three volunteer possibilities:

  • Volunteers will be placed into teams of three and walk designated areas of the downtown neighbourhood for the count/surveys.
  •  Volunteers will be present at our main event at Princess Park for the count/surveys.
  •  Volunteers will staff our headquarters – a central location for volunteers.

Our PiT Count will provide a snapshot of homelessness, indicating the minimum number of people experiencing homelessness in our community and helping to improve our understanding of the needs and circumstances of those affected. The survey will provide us with key data on gender, age, ethnicity, veteran status and more. With solid data, funding is more accessible. Counts also allow us to measure progress towards our ultimate goal: ending homelessness in Brandon.
